Comparison

Kometrics vs Baremetrics

The Stripe-first analytics tool, and the one that has invested hardest in doing something about churn rather than only reporting it. Founded by Josh Pigford and acquired by Xenon Partners in 2020, it is pitched on speed and clarity: connect Stripe, get dashboards, no engineering. Their real centre of gravity is the pair of retention products bolted onto the analytics.

The short version

Baremetrics is the best answer in this category if your real problem is failed payments and cancellations, because Recover and Cancellation Insights are operational products rather than reports. It starts at $75 a month with no free tier, adds $129 a month for each of those two products, and gates the API to a $1,152 a month plan. Kometrics is $19 a month with everything included, and does not chase failed payments at all.

Pricing, and where the real number comes from

The headline is $75 a month on Launch, $255 on Growth and $1,152 on Scale, banded by ARR. The number most people actually end up paying is higher, for two reasons that are easy to miss on the pricing page.

First, integrations are rationed by tier: one on Launch, two on Growth, unlimited on Scale. Connect Stripe and App Store Connect and you are on Growth at $255 a month regardless of how small your book is. Second, the two products Baremetrics is best known for are add-ons at $129 a month each. Stripe plus Recover on the entry tier is $204 a month before you have added anything else.

Kometrics is $19 a month, or $15 billed yearly, free under $1,000 MRR, with all four billing sources and the API included. There is no tier to move up to, so there is no cliff to fall off.

Compare the number you will actually pay, not the headline. Add-ons and the integration cap are where the difference shows up.

Recover is the reason to choose them

We are not going to pretend otherwise. Recover runs up to seven customisable emails on a schedule, adds SMS, sends card expiry and renewal reminders ahead of time, escalates in-app banners to a paywall after a grace period, hosts card update pages on your own domain, and writes the new card back to the processor. Cancellation Insights goes further, with a drop-in cancellation flow that can create and apply a Stripe coupon automatically when someone accepts a retention offer, then runs reason-specific win-back sequences.

Kometrics has Risk Radar, and it is worth being precise about what that is. It shows you the MRR sitting on failed payments and dunning, what is scheduled to cancel, and which accounts recently downgraded, so you can see the revenue at risk and act on it yourself. It tells you where the fire is. It does not go and put it out.

If involuntary churn is the thing costing you real money every month, Recover pays for itself and you should buy it. That is a straight recommendation, and it is theirs to win.

If failed payments are your problem, choose Baremetrics. We report the risk; they recover the revenue.

Analytics and what is included

On the reporting itself the two are closer than the price gap suggests. Baremetrics covers the standard metric set with genuinely good design, and setup speed and visual polish are the most consistent praise in their reviews. A live public demo with no signup means you can judge that for yourself in a minute.

The differences are in what each tier holds back. Scenario planning starts on Scale at $1,152 a month; Kometrics includes Forecast on every plan. The Analytics API is also Scale-only; ours is included at $19. Custom dashboards, unlimited segmentation and benchmarks start on Growth at $255.

Against that, Baremetrics has Open Benchmarks, free and public to anyone, covering cohort performance by ARPU, pricing model comparisons and failed card rates. We have nothing equivalent, and it is a generous thing to publish.

Similar reporting. The gap is that forecasting and the API cost $1,152 a month there and $19 here.

What each one costs as you grow

The same book priced by all four tools. ChartMogul and Baremetrics both charge on the revenue they are measuring, so their columns climb with yours. Ours does not move.

Who each one is for

Choose Kometrics if

  • Founders and small teams who want the whole picture without a bill that grows with the thing they are trying to grow
  • Companies billing through Stripe, Paddle, Creem or Asaas
  • Anyone who wants forecasting, cohorts and risk analysis without a tier upgrade
  • Teams selling in Brazil or through a merchant of record

Choose Baremetrics if

  • Stripe-first companies who want a polished dashboard with no setup work
  • Teams whose biggest revenue problem is failed payments and involuntary churn
  • Anyone who wants a real cancellation and win-back flow, not just a churn number
  • Businesses with meaningful App Store or Google Play subscription revenue

Where Kometrics falls short

You are going to find this out in week two anyway. Better you hear it now.

  • We are the newest product here. ChartMogul has been at this since 2014 and it shows in the edge cases they have already met.
  • Four billing sources against ChartMogul’s thirty-plus. If you bill through Zuora, Recurly, Chargebee or Braintree, we cannot read it yet.
  • No CRM. ChartMogul ships pipelines, deals, tasks and connected mailboxes; we deliberately do not.
  • No dunning or payment recovery. We will show you the MRR sitting on failed payments, but Baremetrics Recover and Paddle Retain actually go and win it back.
  • No industry benchmark dataset. ChartMogul compares you against thousands of companies; we compare you against your own history.
  • Tiered and metered prices are not supported. A price with no fixed unit amount is skipped rather than guessed at, so usage-based billing is not a fit yet.

Moving from Baremetrics

  1. 1

Nothing to export for the metrics themselves. Connect Stripe, Paddle, Creem or Asaas to Kometrics and your history rebuilds from the billing data.

  2. 2

The genuine switching cost is not data, it is infrastructure. If you run Recover or Cancellation Insights, those are wired into your live billing flow with hosted card update pages and embedded scripts. Turning them off means your dunning stops, so have a replacement running first.

  3. 3

Baremetrics cancellation is self-serve in Settings, and has been since October 2022. Older reviews describing a mandatory phone call are out of date.

  4. 4

Their chart and customer exports are available on all plans if you want a copy of the numbers before you go. Customer exports arrive as a zipped CSV by email rather than an instant download, and are capped at six requests a day.

Common questions

Is Kometrics cheaper than Baremetrics?
Yes, at every size. Baremetrics starts at $75 a month with no free tier and reaches $1,152 a month above $3.6M ARR. Kometrics is $19 a month flat, and free under $1,000 MRR. Recover and Cancellation Insights add $129 a month each on top of a Baremetrics plan.
Does Kometrics have anything like Baremetrics Recover?
No, and this is the clearest reason to choose them over us. Risk Radar shows you the MRR sitting on failed payments and dunning, so you know what is at risk. Recover actually goes and wins it back with email and SMS sequences, hosted card update pages and card write-back to the processor. If involuntary churn is your main problem, Recover is worth its price.
How many billing sources can I connect?
Kometrics connects Stripe, Paddle, Creem and Asaas, and connecting more than one does not change the price. Baremetrics rations integrations by tier: one on Launch, two on Growth, unlimited on Scale, so a second billing source moves you from $75 to $255 a month.
Do I need a paid plan to use the API?
With Kometrics the API and webhooks are included at $19 a month. With Baremetrics the Analytics API is a Scale feature, which is $1,152 a month.
Which should I choose?
Choose Baremetrics if failed payments and cancellations are the problem you are actually trying to solve, or if you have significant App Store or Google Play revenue. Choose Kometrics if you want the full analytics picture, forecasting and risk included, at a price that does not move.

Prices and limits were read off the vendor’s own pages on August 13, 2026. Review sites and comparison roundups carry stale pricing for every product here, so we do not use them as a source. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
