How to connect ProfitWell to Claude Code and ChatGPT
There is no official ProfitWell MCP server. What does work: the ProfitWell API from Claude Code, Paddle's MCP for Paddle Billing, and the gap in ChatGPT.

Search for how to connect ProfitWell to Claude and you will find confident guides to a server that does not exist. So here is the honest map, checked against Paddle's own pages on October 13, 2026.
There is no ProfitWell MCP server. Not from ProfitWell, and not from Paddle, which owns it. What does exist:
- The ProfitWell API, which Claude Code and Codex can call straight from the shell. This is the only route to your actual ProfitWell numbers.
- Paddle's MCP server, which is not ProfitWell at all, but may be what you want if you bill on Paddle Billing.
- Third-party wrappers, for the clients that have no shell: ChatGPT and Claude on the web.
Full disclosure: we make Kometrics, which competes with ProfitWell. The first three routes below work without us, and the last section is about when that tradeoff stops being worth it.
Which route fits you
| You bill on | You ask in | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly or Braintree, with ProfitWell | Claude Code or Codex | The ProfitWell API from the shell |
| Paddle Billing | Claude Code, Codex or Cursor | Paddle's MCP server (Paddle's numbers, not ProfitWell's) |
| Anything | ChatGPT or Claude on the web | No official route: a third-party wrapper, or another tool |
First: ProfitWell is still alive, and still free
Plenty of competitor blogs say ProfitWell has been renamed or wound down. Paddle's own pages say otherwise. ProfitWell Metrics is still sold as "100% free", still connects Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora and Recurly as well as Paddle, and has no sunset announced. The last word on its future was Paddle calling it a core offering in November 2024. Paddle Billing sellers see it in their dashboard as Subscription Metrics, and it refreshes every 3 to 6 hours.
Route 1: the ProfitWell API, from Claude Code or Codex
The ProfitWell API v2 is still documented, on Paddle's
Classic docs site, and still answers. One endpoint does most of the work:
/v2/metrics/monthly/ returns about 40 monthly trends with your full history, including MRR,
churn and retention rates, LTV, ARPU, and the MRR movements (new, upgraded, downgraded, churned,
reactivated). These are your real ProfitWell numbers, the same ones on the dashboard.
You need the private API token: in the ProfitWell app, open Account Settings, then Integrations, and click the ProfitWell API card. Then give it to the agent without putting it in the conversation:
Paste the private token at the silent prompt, so it stays out of your shell history and out of the chat. Then start Claude in the same shell.
read -rs PROFITWELL_TOKEN && export PROFITWELL_TOKEN
claudeA few lines in the project’s CLAUDE.md (or AGENTS.md for Codex) so the agent knows the API exists and how to call it.
## ProfitWell metrics
ProfitWell API v2 at https://api.profitwell.com/v2/.
Auth: header `Authorization: $PROFITWELL_TOKEN` (raw token, no Bearer).
Monthly history: GET /v2/metrics/monthly/?metrics=<comma list>
Plans by MRR: GET /v2/metrics/plans/
Read only: never call POST, PUT or DELETE endpoints.
Never print the token.What the agent ends up running. Rates come back as percentages, amounts in your account currency.
curl -s -H "Authorization: $PROFITWELL_TOKEN" \
"https://api.profitwell.com/v2/metrics/monthly/?metrics=recurring_revenue,revenue_churn_rate,lifetime_value"With the token in the environment and those lines in CLAUDE.md, the agent can answer from the API directly:
The catch: the token can write
ProfitWell has no read-only token. The private token can also create, churn and unchurn manually added subscriptions, edit plans, exclude customers from metrics and anonymize customers. The CLAUDE.md line asking for GET requests only is an instruction, not a control, so keep Claude Code's permission prompts on and approve each request yourself, at least until you trust the pattern. Anything that is not a GET should get a hard no.
Two more limits to plan around: 25 requests per 5 seconds and 3,000 metrics calls a day, and daily metrics only cover the current or previous month (monthly metrics go all the way back). And a judgment call: the API works and is documented, but its docs carry a "Paddle Classic" banner and no changelog since the acquisition. Build on it knowing that.
Route 2: Paddle's MCP server, if you bill on Paddle Billing
Paddle runs an official hosted MCP server
at https://mcp.paddle.com/mcp, live since May 2026 and signing in with OAuth since August. It
is not a ProfitWell server. It reaches the Paddle Billing API, which since March 2026 has
its own metrics endpoints: MRR,
MRR change, active subscribers, revenue, refunds, chargebacks and checkout conversion, plus a
flexible Explore query.
Opens the browser for OAuth. Connections start read only; write access is granted in Paddle under Connectors, MCP.
claude mcp add --transport http paddle-live https://mcp.paddle.com/mcpPaddle’s plugin bundles the same server, a docs server and a set of skills. Run both lines inside a session.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
/plugin install paddle@claude-communityThe second line opens the browser for OAuth.
codex mcp add paddle-live --url https://mcp.paddle.com/mcp
codex mcp login paddle-liveAdd this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json and approve the OAuth prompt.
{
"mcpServers": {
"paddle-live": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.paddle.com/mcp"
}
}
}What to know before you lean on it:
- Paddle's numbers, not ProfitWell's. Paddle does not document whether the two agree, so do not mix them in one report without checking.
- No LTV, ARPU, churn rate, cohorts or benchmarks. Those live in ProfitWell, which this server does not reach.
- Refreshed every 24 hours, so "today" means yesterday.
- It can write. OAuth connections start read only, which is the right default. Grant write access only if you need it, because Paddle states plainly that the server does not gate destructive operations.
- Nothing for Stripe sellers. If ProfitWell reads your Stripe account, this server sees nothing of it.
The server exposes three broad tools rather than one per endpoint: a search over the Paddle API, an execute tool that runs a short script chaining API calls, and a way to report a missing capability. Flexible, and also the reason to keep tool approval on.
Route 3: ChatGPT and Claude on the web
These clients have no shell, so Route 1 is out, and neither directory lists a ProfitWell connector. What is left:
- Third-party hosted wrappers. Vinkius sells a ProfitWell MCP server that runs on your token. Pipedream's ProfitWell app has subscription actions but no metrics, and n8n has a template exposing daily metrics. Each one means handing a writable token to a third party, so weigh that before you paste it.
- A custom connector pointed at Paddle's server, if you are on Paddle Billing. The endpoint supports the standard OAuth registration these clients use, but Paddle documents neither client, so treat it as untested.
Where Kometrics fits
ProfitWell is free, and Kometrics is not past $1,000 MRR ($19 a month after that). If free is the requirement and you live in Claude Code, Route 1 is a perfectly good answer.
Kometrics earns its price when you want the same metrics in every client, including the two Route 3 leaves out. It reads the same Stripe or Paddle Billing account ProfitWell does (plus Creem and Asaas), rebuilds it as a movement ledger, and serves it over an MCP connector that is read only by construction, the same in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex:
Then run /mcp and choose Authenticate: the browser opens once for the approval screen, where you pick the workspace.
claude mcp add --transport http kometrics https://app.kometrics.com/mcpDesktop or web. The connector URL is https://app.kometrics.com/mcp.
- 1Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- 2Paste the connector URL and save.
- 3Approve it on the Kometrics screen, choosing the workspace it reads.
The connector URL is https://app.kometrics.com/mcp, with OAuth as the authentication.
- 1Turn on Developer mode under Settings, then Connectors.
- 2Add a connector with the connector URL, and OAuth as the authentication.
- 3Approve it on the Kometrics screen, choosing the workspace it reads.
The second line opens the browser for the approval screen.
codex mcp add kometrics --url https://app.kometrics.com/mcp
codex mcp login kometricsThe answers go down to the customer: which accounts churned, what each carried, which plan the losses cluster in. If you are also deciding between billers, Paddle vs Stripe covers the merchant-of-record question, and the ChartMogul version of this guide shows what an official connector from an analytics vendor looks like.
FAQ
Is there a ProfitWell MCP server?
No. Neither ProfitWell nor Paddle publishes one. Paddle's MCP server covers Paddle Billing, not ProfitWell Metrics.
Does Paddle's MCP server include ProfitWell metrics?
No. It reaches the Paddle Billing API, which has its own MRR, revenue and subscriber metrics, refreshed daily. LTV, churn rates, cohorts and benchmarks are not in it.
Can ChatGPT read my ProfitWell data?
Not through anything official. ChatGPT has no shell to call the API, and there is no ProfitWell connector in its directory. A third-party wrapper is the only route.
Is ProfitWell still free?
Yes. As of October 13, 2026, Paddle sells ProfitWell Metrics as 100% free, for Paddle sellers and for Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora and Recurly users.
Is it safe to give Claude Code my ProfitWell token?
The token can write, and there is no read-only version. Keep it out of the chat (load it into the environment), keep permission prompts on, and approve only GET requests.

How to connect ChartMogul to Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT
ChartMogul has an official remote MCP server. Setup for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex, the prompts it answers well, and the limits to know before you trust it.

Gross churn vs net churn: the leak, and what covers it
Gross MRR churn measures what you lost; net churn subtracts the expansion that covered it. Formulas, a worked example, negative churn, and why quoting only one of them misleads.

Paddle vs Stripe for SaaS: merchant of record or payments platform
Paddle and Stripe are different species: one becomes the seller and handles global tax for 5% + 50¢, the other gives you the best payments infrastructure and leaves compliance to you. The real comparison, with the math.
