How to connect ChartMogul to Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT
ChartMogul has an official remote MCP server. Setup for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex, the prompts it answers well, and the limits to know before you trust it.
By Pedro Campos

ChartMogul has an official MCP server, and it is a good one. Since June 2026 it runs as a hosted
endpoint at https://mcp.chartmogul.com: you sign in with OAuth, there is no API key to create,
and Claude, Claude Code or ChatGPT can read your MRR, churn, cohorts, customers and pipeline in
the middle of a conversation.
This guide is the setup for each client, checked against ChartMogul's own documentation on October 13, 2026, plus the part setup docs leave out: what to ask, and where the answers can quietly go wrong.
Full disclosure: we make Kometrics, which competes with ChartMogul. If you already run ChartMogul and like it, you do not need us for any of this. The connector below is all it takes, and there is a short section at the end on when a comparison is worth making.
The short version
| ChartMogul MCP server | |
|---|---|
| Endpoint | https://mcp.chartmogul.com, hosted, nothing to install |
| Auth | OAuth 2.0 with your own ChartMogul login, no API key |
| Access | Read only: no tool creates or edits anything |
| Tools | About 77, from MRR movements to CRM pipelines |
| Plans | Listed on every plan, Free included |
| Who can connect | Owner, Admin, Staff and Read-only members |
Setup, client by client
From Claude’s connector directory, desktop or web. Sign in to ChartMogul in the same browser first.
- 1Open Customize, then Connectors, and search for ChartMogul remote MCP.
- 2Click Connect.
- 3Check the account name on the ChartMogul consent screen, then click Authorize.
Then run /mcp in a session and complete the OAuth sign-in. Add --scope user to have it in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http chartmogul https://mcp.chartmogul.comFrom OpenAI’s plugin directory. Sign in to ChartMogul in the same browser first.
- 1Open Settings, then Plugins, and search for ChartMogul remote MCP.
- 2Click Connect.
- 3Check the account name on the ChartMogul consent screen, then click Authorize.
Not in ChartMogul’s docs: this is Codex’s standard syntax for any OAuth server. The second line opens the browser.
codex mcp add chartmogul --url https://mcp.chartmogul.com
codex mcp login chartmogulNot in ChartMogul’s docs either. Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json and approve the OAuth prompt.
{
"mcpServers": {
"chartmogul": {
"url": "https://mcp.chartmogul.com"
}
}
}Whichever client you use, the consent screen names the ChartMogul account being connected, so read it if you belong to more than one. To revoke access later, disconnect from the client's connector settings.
Two things can block the connection before it starts:
- Your role. ChartMogul lets Owner, Admin, Staff and Read-only members connect. Lite members cannot.
- An admin switch. MCP access is on by default, but an Owner or Admin can turn it off under Settings, Admin, Security, "Allow MCP server access". If authorization fails with a permissions error, look there first.
One more, for Free accounts. ChartMogul's API is closed to Free accounts above $10K MRR, and the pricing page lists API and MCP access as one line. ChartMogul does not say outright that the MCP follows the API rule, but if you are over the Free limit, expect it to.
Skip the old GitHub server
Search for "ChartMogul MCP" and you will also find chartmogul/chartmogul-mcp-server on
GitHub, an experimental local Python server from June 2025. It is archived. It also ran on an
API key and shipped write tools (creating customers, plans and subscription events), which is
the opposite of what you want an assistant holding by default. The hosted server replaced it;
use that one.
What it is good at
The tool list is wide. Beyond the core metrics (MRR and ARR with their movements, churn rates, LTV, ARPA, ASP, cohorts and retention) it reaches cash flow, currency effects, scenario forecasts, industry benchmarks, and the CRM side of ChartMogul: contacts, notes, opportunities and pipelines. Prompts that play to that range:
Movement-level detail is there too. Tools for per-customer MRR movements and churned subscribers mean "why did MRR drop" gets answered customer by customer, not as one net number.
Where answers go wrong
None of these are bugs. They are how ChartMogul models data, and an assistant will not warn you about any of them unless you ask.
Account-wide totals mix everything. If your account has more than one billing source, or customers paying in more than one currency, headline MRR combines all of it and converts to the account currency. That is usually right on a dashboard and not always what you mean in a question. When we cross-checked our own ledger against ChartMogul through this connector, the first MRR figure did not match for exactly this reason: the total included a second billing source and currency-converted subscriptions. Scoping the question fixed it. ChartMogul's filter language handles the scoping, and the server ships reference tools so the assistant can write the filter itself, but you have to ask for the scope: "Stripe only, in USD".
ChartMogul's numbers, not your biller's. Figures come from ChartMogul's data model, which classifies some things differently from your billing dashboard, and Stripe events wait about ten minutes before processing. If the assistant's MRR disagrees with Stripe's, that is usually the model working as designed. What is MRR? walks through why any two tools can disagree on the same book.
Seventy-plus tools take room. Every tool definition is context the model reads before it answers. Clients that load tools on demand handle this well. In others, a wide connector beside several more can crowd the conversation, and the model starts picking near-miss tools. A fresh conversation with fewer connectors switched on usually clears it.
Read only, on purpose. It cannot tag a customer, log a note or create a task. ChartMogul says write actions are on the roadmap for its in-app assistant. For now, writes go through the REST API with a Read & Write key.
ChartMogul AI or the MCP server?
ChartMogul also ships an assistant inside the app, ChartMogul AI, launched in August 2026. It runs on Anthropic models and shares the MCP server's data and tool layer, so the answers come from the same place. The difference is where you ask: inside ChartMogul, or in the assistant you already use beside your other connectors. One practical gap: Read-only members can use the MCP server but not ChartMogul AI.
Where Kometrics fits
If ChartMogul is your system of record and the bill is fine, connect it and stop reading here. The connector is good, and it comes with every plan.
Kometrics is for founders who want the same conversation for less (one plan, $19 a month, free under $1,000 MRR), or who prefer a smaller surface: ten tools, each one a whole question (how a metric moved, why, which customers, what renews next), computed from a movement ledger where every figure traces back to the invoices behind it. It reads Stripe, Paddle, Creem and Asaas, and connects the same way, over OAuth:
Then run /mcp and choose Authenticate: the browser opens once for the approval screen, where you pick the workspace.
claude mcp add --transport http kometrics https://app.kometrics.com/mcpDesktop or web. The connector URL is https://app.kometrics.com/mcp.
- 1Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- 2Paste the connector URL and save.
- 3Approve it on the Kometrics screen, choosing the workspace it reads.
The connector URL is https://app.kometrics.com/mcp, with OAuth as the authentication.
- 1Turn on Developer mode under Settings, then Connectors.
- 2Add a connector with the connector URL, and OAuth as the authentication.
- 3Approve it on the Kometrics screen, choosing the workspace it reads.
The second line opens the browser for the approval screen.
codex mcp add kometrics --url https://app.kometrics.com/mcp
codex mcp login kometricsThe full comparison, including where ChartMogul is the better buy, is in a ChartMogul alternative built for agents.
Running both for a month is also a sane way to switch. Ask each connector the same question in one conversation and look at the gaps: they are almost always the scoping issues above, and they tell you more about your data than either number alone.
FAQ
Does ChartMogul have an MCP server?
Yes. ChartMogul runs an official hosted MCP server at https://mcp.chartmogul.com, listed in
Claude's connector directory and OpenAI's plugin directory. It signs in with OAuth and is read
only.
Do I need a ChartMogul API key to connect Claude?
No. The hosted server signs you in with OAuth. API keys are for the REST API, and for the archived local server, which you should not use.
Can Claude change data in ChartMogul through MCP?
No. Every tool reads, lists or searches. To write, use the REST API with a Read & Write key.
Is the ChartMogul MCP server free?
ChartMogul lists API and MCP access on every plan, including Free (up to $10K MRR). Free accounts above $10K MRR lose API access, and the MCP most likely follows.
Why doesn't Claude's MRR match my Stripe dashboard?
Usually because ChartMogul's model differs from Stripe's: account-wide totals include every source and converted currencies, some customers are classified differently, and events are processed with a short delay. Ask for a scoped figure, and compare like with like.
